Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Two of the best to ever play in their respective sports, are showing their love for tennis this weekend, and they have their daughters to thank.

Both Mike Tyson, former world heavyweight champion, and Wayne Gretzky, the greatest hockey player to every lace up skates, have been enjoying the tennis this weekend at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, California.

Gretzky was in attendance with his daughter Emma Marie last night during Eugenie Bouchard’s second-round win over Sloane Stephens, and that did not go unnoticed by Bouchard.

“Yeah, it was such an honor to have him watch,” Bouchard said. “I know he came to the US Open last year, as well. As soon as I saw him in the box I got nervous. I know his daughter is an aspiring tennis champion. It's cool that they are really into it and supportive.

Tyson’s daughter Milan is also an aspiring tennis star, so the boxing legend made the rounds here on the grounds, and many players were eager to get a photo and a word with him.

"I have known him for a number of years now." Serena Williams said of Tyson. "He's just always been really soft-spoken. Obviously I think a lot of people know that. He's also really kind and just in general, you know, just someone that really seems to care a lot. Yeah, it was fun to meet him, again, but his daughter yesterday. It was cool."
