The 25-year-old Canadian needed one hour and 25 minutes to dispatch the Chilean southpaw, and he becomes the third man born after 2000 to have claimed at least 250 victories on tour.

Players with 250 wins, born after 2000 (with at least 150)

  • Jannik Sinner, 306
  • Carlos Alcaraz, 276
  • Felix Auger-Aliassime 250
  • Holger Rune, 171
  • Lorenzo Musetti, 168

Auger-Aliassime saved all seven break points he faced and hit 29 winners against just 11 for Tabilo.

He will face Jesper De Jong in the third round in Shanghai.

The Canadian was playing his first match since reaching the semifinals at the US Open. It was his first major semifinal since the 2021 US Open, and second overall. Auger-Aliassime has won 10 of his last 12 matches, dating back to the Cincinnati Open, where he reached the quarterfinals, and is 35-20 on the season with two titles (Adelaide and Montpellier) to his name.
