Lucie Safarova Plans to Retire after Australian Open
Former doubles World No.1 and five-time major doubles champion Lucie Safarova has announced that she will retire after the 2019 Australian Open.Safarova was also a World No.5 singles player that reached the final at Roland Garros.According to WTA Insider, Safarova made the announcement in Prague at a pre-Fed Cup press conference. The 31-year-old was also a four-time Fed Cup champion and a Bronze medalist in doubles at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Citing recent health issues that have come up over the last few seasons, former No.5 and 2015 @rolandgarros finalist @luciesafarova announces that @AustralianOpen will be her final tournament. She plans to play singles and doubles in Melbourne.

Safarova cited health issues as the main reason for her retirement. She was hospitalized with a bacterial infection in 2015 and worried that she may never play again. She returned the court later that season but continued to struggle. In 2016, she dropped out of the Top 20 in singles and never climbed that high again.In doubles she continued to thrive, winning three straight majors with Bethanie Mattek-Sands starting with the 2016 U.S. Open.
Safarova won seven singles titles and 15 doubles titles. She is currently ranked 51 in doubles and 106 in singles. She went 12-11 in singles in 2018 and owns a total of 448 singles wins. ]]>
