Serena Downplays – Doesn’t Deny – Comeback Rumors

Maybe Serena is coming back to the tour after all.

Last year when Ben Rothenberg of Bounces broke news that Serena had rejoined the anti-doping tennis pool, she was quick to put the kibosh on rumors on social media.

After a new video surfaced this week on the Today Show, in which Serena was grilled by a host for re-entering the testing pool, we’re not quite sure what to believe.

This time, Williams was not so adamant in her denial. In fact, she didn’t deny it at all. Check the video below.

Williams will turn 45 after the US Open this year. And before we get too excited, we don’t know exactly what a comeback would entail, even if Williams was to return to the tour. Maybe she just wants to play doubles with Venus for a last time?

During the interview, Williams danced around the issue, like she was working her baseline to get into position for one of her legendary forehands.

Asked about the re-entering the anti-doping testing pool, Williams said: “Did I re-enter? I don’t know if I was out. Listen, I can’t discuss this,” she said, laughing.

Ok then.

Told that this was an opportunity to put rumors of her comeback to bed, Williams said: “If I want to put it to bed … Listen, I want to go to bed — it’s early.”

No matter what discipline Williams chose to enter, it would be major news in the sporting world.

Stay tuned.
