The doubles field and pairings have been released for next month’s BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, and a few pairings really pop off the page. Exhibit A: A Learner Tien / Daniil Medvedev pairing. Medvedev and Tien Join Forces

The Daniil Medvedev and Learner Tien pairing is a fascinating “frenemy” situation—Tien has actually beaten Medvedev in three of their last four meetings, including a straight-sets demolition at the Australian Open just last month. Medvedev has openly joked that Tien’s game “drives him nuts,” so watching them try to coordinate on the same side of the net will be psychological theater at its finest.
