Caroline Garcia battled from the brink, saving a match point to triumph over compatriot Alizé Cornet, 7-6(9), 3-6, 7-5 at Bad Homburg.

Garcia will face Bianca Andreescu for the title, the Canadian coming through when Simona Halep pulled out of the semifinals with a neck injury.

Andreescu entered 2022 with a 1-4 tour-level record on grass, but she has won four of five and looked comfortable on the surface this summer.

Garcia, who is into her first WTA final since 2019 at Nottingham, saved a match point at 4-5 in the final set, then reeled off the final three games to conquer Cornet.

Garcia and Andreescu have never met before on tour.

Andreescu, playing her first final of 2022, is bidding for her fourth career title; Garcia is bidding for her eighth career title and third on grass. She improved to 33-19 lifetime on grass with her victory on Friday.
