Tennis. It’s a love sport. Or is it?
Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac were romantically linked since 2020, until only recently, when the Czech told the world that she was no longer dating Machac.
What would happen when the pair came together to play the Olympics in Paris, then? Would the chemistry be deficient? Not at all.
Siniakova and Machac claimed Olympic gold on Friday in Paris, defeating China’s Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 in the final.
After the match Siniakova and Machac celebrated like their relationship may be on again, hugging and kissing as they took in the moment and later stood at the podium with the Czech national anthem playing, Machac lovingly hugging Siniakova, who couldn’t hold back tears.
It’s obvious that the chemistry is there for the pair on the court, but what about off the court? Siniakova and Machac aren’t willing to divulge.
“That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that,” Siniakova said with a giggle. “We like when you are confused.”
“It’s top secret,” Machac, 23, added.
In terms of tennis, the victory is yet another testament to Siniakova’s greatness as a tennis player. The 28-year-old had already won the women’s doubles gold with Barbora Krejcikova at the 2020 Tokyo games.
She has won nine major doubles titles, but has never won a major mixed titles. She’s the boss on the court, and clearly Machac is a good apprentice.
The rising 23-year-old played for the bronze medal in men’s doubles on Saturday but fell to Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, 6-3, 6-4.
The bronze medal in mixed went to Gabriela Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime, who defeated Wesley Koolhof and Demi Schuurs 6-3, 7-6(2).
