Osaka had her right foot looked at after the third game, and never seemed to have confidence that she was fully fit from that point on.

It is unclear whether Osaka, who is seeded 14th and faces Elsa Jacquemot in the first round at Wimbledon, will be good to go for her sixth appearance at the All England Club.

“I apologize for not being able to finish,” Osaka told the crowd. “Congrats to Karolina you are on eof hte coolest girls on tour and it’s always fun to play you, I hope you have the best of luck at Wimbledon as well.”

Muchova, making her debut at Bad Homburg, wins her second title of the season, and third overall.

Saturday’s final marked a maiden final on grass for both players. Muchova improved to 3-3 lifetime against Osaka with the win.

“Nobody wants to retire in a final,” Muchova told Osaka. “I’m sorry for you, I wish you all the best.”

Played in a significant heatwave that has struck Europe this week, Muchova thanked the fans for their ability to withstand the heat.

“For me it couldn’t have been a better week here in Bad Homburg,” she said. “Maybe if it was 10 degrees less it could have been better. I’m so happy to win my first 500 title, first title on grass.”

I feel like everyone who came this week deserves a medal. It’s been hot like hell and I don’t see any empty seats.”
