American icon Chris Evert has suffered a setback in her battle with ovarian cancer.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion took to social media to announce that she’d be stepping away from professional duties over the next few months as she undergoes chemotherapy.

“This past weekend, after undergoing CT and PET scans, I learned that my ovarian cancer has returned,” Evert, 71, posted. “I have already undergone surgery as the first step in my treatment and recovery, and will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks.”

Evert, who was scheduled to be a part of ESPN’s commentary team at Wimbledon, will continue her battle at home with family and friends by her side, she said.

Evert was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2022, and declared cancer-free a year later. Her status has gone back-and-forth since.

“Because of this, I will not be attending Wimbledon this year, and I will step back from my professional commitments over the next few months to focus on my health. Ovarian cancer is relentless, but I will stay optimistic and determined in continuing to fight this battle. I am deeply grateful to my medical team, my family, friends, and everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement.
I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.”

A new documentary chronicling the rivalry and cancer battles of Evert and Martina Navratilova,  “Chris & Martina: The Final Set,”  will hit Netflix streaming platform on Friday.

The documentary will celebrate the epic rivalry of two of the world’s greatest sportswomen, while reportedly giving a raw glimpse into the battles both are fighting off the court.

“There’s no B.S. in this film,” Evert told the Athletic this week.
