The improbable run of Kamil Majchrzak climaxed in inspirational victory.

In one of the most unlikely runs in ATP 250 tournament history, the 30-year-old Pole out-dueled Alex de Minaur 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(5) to win his first Tour-level title in a thriller on the grass of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

On championship point, de Minaur double faulted into net ending a pulsating two hour, 25-minute final.

You are one of the toughest opponents ever so I am really glad I could share the court

“This is a very emotional moment for me,” Majchrzak said. “I’m not gonna lie. So I’m gonna try not to cry.

“My family in Poland without them pushing me every day to the limits throughout the good moments and bad moments in my life I probably would have quit a long time ago. I’m really grateful to my family and team.”

Majchrzak scored upset wins over Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev and de Minaur to join Grigor Dimitrov as just the second man to post three Top 10 victories en route to an ATP 250 championship since the series began in 2009.

The second-seeded Aussie praised Majchrzak, who rises to No. 47 in the live rankings, as a worthy winner.

“I want to congratulate Kamil and his team for an unbelievable week,” de Minaur said. “You deserved it today. You were the better player.

“It was a great battle. I just want to say congrats mate. Obviously I would have loved to be able to get the job done today, but it’s a great start to grass-court season. We’re gonna keep on building and hopefully this is the first of many great weeks on the grass.”
