Taylor Townsend has been a force on tour since returning to tennis after the birth of her baby boy Adyn Aubrey in 2021.

She returned to the tour in April of ’22.

Now, she’s the first mom to ever hold the WTA’s No.1 doubles ranking.

Townsend, who claimed the Citi Open doubles title on Saturday alongside Zhang Shuai, learned that she would become the WTA’s new No.1 in Monday’s rankings a day prior.

29-year-old Towsend will become 50th woman to hold the WTA World No.1 doubles ranking (and 13th American) and overtake Katerina Siniakova at the top of the Rankings.

“It feels like a dream and is without a doubt one of the highlights of my career,” Townsend told the WTA. “I loved watching doubles, especially Martina Navratilova play, and it’s an incredible honor to join the list of amazing players to have earned the No.1 ranking.”

Townsend, who has two major doubles titles to her name, both won with Siniakova, earned her 10th career title on Saturday with a 6-1 6-1 win over Caroline Dolehide and Sofia Kenin.

The former World No.46 is currently ranked 97 in singles.
