Eubanks vs Vandeweghe on Tennis Channel: Genuine Tension or Playful Banter?

Eubanks and Vandeweghe

A recent Tennis Channel broadcast segment from Indian Wells featuring analysts Chris Eubanks and Coco Vandeweghe has ignited fan speculation regarding their off-air relationship. The tension began when the conversation shifted from the current players to a personal serve speed contest, leading Eubanks to push back on the focus of the segment.

“See here’s the thing about me and you CoCo, I don’t like to just bask in my own career and accomplishments. I like to focus on the players… That’s where the focus should be. Not on you and I sitting up here in our little fancy clothes out there trying to test our serve speed,” Eubanks remarked.

Vandeweghe quickly retorted, “The difference between you and I is I keep recreating a new career and I just did it yesterday.”

Maybe Eubanks was simply tired of hearing Vandeweghe trash talking him due to the fact that she served 10 MPH faster than him in a serve speed contest. That is where the segment originated, so more than likely that is what sparked Eubanks to go on the attack.

While professional banter is standard in sports broadcasting, many viewers felt the atmosphere shift during this exchange. The segment concluded with Eubanks delivering a sharp side-eye, a gesture that many interpreted as a sign that he was genuinely frustrated by his colleague’s remarks. Whether this interaction was a calculated performance intended to stir social media engagement or a moment of authentic, unscripted friction remains the subject of ongoing debate among tennis fans.

Coco is all about her. She also made Sloane Steven’s feel bad. She should be replaced

I noticed that too. I guess I wasn’t the only one who saw that.

I have to agree with Chris on this one. If you listen to CoCo you would think she was number 1 in the world for several years and won a bunch of majors. It looked like he was genuinely annoyed with her, and I don’t blame him!

TC needs to get rid of CoCo. She talks like she was more than the 2nd rate player that she was. She never stops talking when calling a match. She should take a lesson from Lindsay Davenport who is the only commentator who is quiet during the points.

Eubanks is a new broadcaster and clearly enjoys celebrating the players. Coco still thinks she’s competing. 👋 👋 👋

Agree. I have never been a fan of Coco Vandeweghe. Although she has had some good comments about players, she is so very arrogant and I wouldn’t mind if she is replaced. Chris was so right about it being about the current players. He is A1 professional. Go, Chris!

WOW. Really amazed at the previous comments. Coco is one of the top two female analyst on TC. Eubanks talks entirely way too much. What can be said in 10 seconds takes him 30-40. I find him Uninteresting and way too chatty. I cannot figure out why they resigned him. He has to GO!!!.

I like Chris, but you don’t start an argument on national TV. He should have made a light-hearted joke back rather than lecturing her. Discuss your petty annoyances off-air. So unprofessional. Keep both but let this be a lesson.

I like them both, “stick to the players and not yourselves” except for an occasional insight.

Tennis channel interviews during an on going match . Seems a little ridiculous ! Especially when they can tape the interview and show it later ! Alcaraz vos Medvedev , is why I was watching the tv!!

The difference between them is Chris Eu knew how to use “me” as an objective pronoun, unlike Coco V who said “The difference between you and I…”

🙂

Seriously they are both insightful; I do find Chris a little more appealing personally in general. He does focus away from himself. This particular time though, I think calling her out publicly was not necessary. Just my impression.

Coco V. had a similar incident with Patrick McEnroe last year during the French Open coverage on TNT Sports. Her approach and style in covering tennis are somewhat “in your face” and definitely different/unique compared to those of her veteran female counterparts (Davenport or Rubin). This can sometimes rub some people (broadcasters/audience) the wrong way. Unfortunately, this was not a good look for either Chris or Coco V. However, they both bring a current insider’s view of tennis that is knowledgeable and insightful. Hopefully, this event will strengthen both of them in their broadcast careers and provide the audience with a fresh perspective on the global tennis tour.
