21st-ranked Fernandez improved to 4-0 lifetime in WTA semifinals, and 4-2 on the season with her win. The 19-year-old Canadian, who was knocked out of the Australian Open in the first round, saved the only break point she faced to get past Haddad Maia in 72 minutes.

Fernandez won last year's title in Monterrey, defeating Viktorija Golubic in the final, 6-1, 6-4.

Osorio, ranked 44, reached her third career final with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Nuria Parrizas Diaz in Saturday’s first semifinal.

Both Fernandez (1-2) and Osorio (1-1) will bid for their second career title on Sunday, in their first ever career meeting.
