Camila Osorio continues to thrive on home soil at the Copa Colsanitas in Bogota. The 20-year-old rifled past Elina Avanesyan, 6-1, 6-4 to notch her eighth consecutive win and set a semifinal date with Brazilan Laura Pigossi.
Pigossi topped Dayana Yastremska, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3) to reach her first WTA singles final.
Osorio, playing as the top seed for the first time at a WTA event, was ranked 180 in the world when she claimed her maiden title at Bogota last season, defeating Tamara Zidansek in the final. 52 weeks later the 20-year-old enters the tournament at 33 in the WTA rankings – of WTA players aged 20 or younger, only Iga Swiatek, Emma Raducanu, Coco Gauff and Leylah Fernandez are ranked higher.
Osorio won 14 of 19 second serve return points and converted four of 12 break points to defeat 170th-ranked Avanesyan in 90 minutes.
