Wimbledon Will Crown a First-Time Women’s Singles Winner For the Ninth Consecutive Year, After Muchova Defeats Krejcikova

Karolina Muchova reached her third Wimbledon quarterfinal on Sunday, defeating 2024 champion Barbora Krejcikova, 7-5 5-7 6-3. The victory means that for the ninth consecutive year, the Championships will crown a first-time women’s singles champion.

Not since Serena Williams won her seventh title in 2016, has Wimbledon crowned a repeat champion.

Muchova improved to 10-1 in three-setters with her win on No.2 Court. She will face either Aryna Sabalenka or Naomi Osaka next.

“Just incredibly happy for this whole season, how how I’m playing,” she said. “I’m enjoying tennis a lot, and this is just incredible to be here, and then make a quarterfinals.”
