Another Injury for Draper, the Knee in Barcelona
Jack Draper still can’t catch a break with his body.
Just months after returning from a six-month hiatus due to a bone bruise in his left arm, the Brit has suffered another setback—this time to his right knee.

The injury forced Draper to retire on Monday in Barcelona. After receiving treatment and having his knee taped between the second and third sets, he was unable to continue, eventually falling to Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry, 3-6, 6-3, 4-1 RET.
Draper appeared to sustain the injury late in the first set or early in the second, and his movement was visibly compromised from that point on.
The World No. 28 ultimately pulled the plug after a changeover in the decider, trailing by a double break.
“He just can’t catch a break,” said commentator Barry Cowan, calling the match for the world feed.
Draper, who began his comeback in February at Davis Cup before competing in Doha, Indian Wells and Miami, now stands at 5-4 on the season. He has lost his last three matches.
Etcheverry, meanwhile, leads the ATP in clay-court wins in 2026, with a 13-3 record.
“He was playing unbelievable,” Etcheverry said. “He’s a great competitor—I really like his game. He’s a fighter, and I hope he can recover soon, because the tour needs players like him.”
The injury puts Draper’s clay season in jeapardy. as well as his Top 30 ranking. The former World No. 4 reached the final in Madrid, the quarterfinals in Rome and the round of 16 at Roland-Garros, earning a total of 1000 rankings points.
