Alcaraz Got a Good Draw

Or at least it seems that way. The Spaniard, who will bid for the career Grand Slam this year in Australia, will face Australia’s Adam Walton in the first round. After that, Yannick Hanfmann or a lucky loser. The first seed he could face is Corentin Moutet and his potential quarterfinal opponent is Alex de Minaur.

There are a few potential trouble makers in his section, like Alexander Bublik, but overall the situation is manageable for the six-time major champion. Alexander Zverev would be Alcaraz’s potential semifinal opponent, with Novak Djokovic, the player who defeated him in the quarterfinals last year, residing in the lower half.

There are a Plethora of Great First-Rounders

More than usual in fact, and here’s a list to prove it.

  • Alex de Minaur vs Matteo Berrettini
  • Alexander Zverev vs Gabriel Diallo
  • Matteo Arnaldi vs Andrey Rublev
  • Hubert Hurkacz vs Zizou Bergs
  • Ben Shelton vs Ugo Humbert

We could go on… and on. Check out the draws yourself and tell us what matches you’ll be watching in round one.

Sinner could face Fonseca in round three

Two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner is looking at a potential third-rounder with Joao Fonseca. We’ll get to see what type of improvements the 2025 ATP Breakthrough Player of the Year has made in the off-season. Is the 19-year-old ready to shake up a draw in supreme fashion? We can’t wait to find out.

Sinner has gone 27-1 in his last 28 hard court matches at the majors, losing only to Alcaraz in last year’s US Open final. Sinner and Fonseca have never contested a tour-level match.

Last Chance Saloon

We know Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils are set to make their last appearances in Melbourne Park this year, and all eyes will be upon the pair of legends as the contest their first-round matches.

Wawrinka has been drawn to face Serbia’s Laslo Djere, while Monfils will take on a qualifier or lucky loser, to be named by the weekend.

But what about 38-year-old Novak Djokovic. He says he basically wants to play until the 2028 Olympic Games, but there is no guarantee. We’ll keep an eye on the Grand Slam King as well as he faces Pedro Martinez in his first round match.

Stacked with Starpower

There are three former Australian Open champions in the draw – Sinner, Wawrinka and Djokovic – and six former Grand Slam champions – Sinner, Alcaraz, Djokovic, Wawrinka, Medvedev and Cilic in the draw. 40-year-old Wawrinka is the oldest of them all.
