Italy’s Camila Giorgi took home her fourth career title by defeating Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson on Sunday, 7-6(3), 1-6, 6-2.
The unseeded Italian won all three tiebreaks she played over the course of the week as she knocked off the No.6, No.2 and No.4 seeds en route to her final clash with Peterson.
The triumph is Giorgi’s first WTA title since she won her maiden 1000 title at Montreal in 2021. She jumps 22 spots in Monday’s rankings, back to 46 in the world.
The World No.68 rallied from 2-0 down in the final set and steamed to the finish, winning in two hours and 23 minutes to improve to 3-1 lifetime against Peterson.
The Swede returns to the Top-100 in Monday’s rankings, rising 41 spots from 140 to 99.
