Iga Swiatek can recapture the No.1 ranking and finish as the WTA’s year-end No.1 for a third consecutive year, but to do it the Pole will need – at the very least – to successfully defend her WTA Finals title next week in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Swiatek, who trails current World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka by 1046 points entering the season-ending championships, needs to be strong. If she loses two round robin matches in Riyadh, Sabalenka could seal the year-end No.1 ranking with just one victory in round robin play.
If Sabalenka goes 3-0 in round robin play, she would secure the No.1 ranking regardless of Swiatek’s result.
It will be an uphill battle for Swiatek. See the table of ranking scenarios below, provided by the WTA.
Play begins at the WTA Finals on Saturday November 2.
