According to Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times, the suit was filed Wednesday in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. In it, Bouchard says that the tournament failed to give her any notice about a “slippery, foreign and dangerous substance on the floor” that caused her fall.
On Friday September fourth, after playing singles and mixed doubles in New York, Bouchard was in the locker room in the evening and slipped and hit her head. She was forced to withdraw from the tournament two days later and is still suffering from symptoms related to the injury. At her last event in Beijing, she pulled out of a match in the second set after breaking down in tears and being assessed on-court by medical staff.
Bouchard’s lawyer in the case is Benedict Morelli, of the Morelli Ratner Law Firm.
