Alize Cornet arrived in Paris with a losing record on clay this season and soon found herself down a set against an opponent she'd never beaten.

Cornet kick-started her comeback with a kick.

"I sort of kicked myself in the ass, and that did me good," the Frenchwoman said after rallying to defeat 2012 Roland Garros doubles champion Roberta Vinci, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, and reach the French Open second round for the eighth time.

"I used the atmosphere on the court," Cornet said.  "The crowd was getting bigger and bigger, and they were
very supportive and it was very helpful."

The 2007 French Open junior champion had been 0-4 lifetime against Vinci.

Cornet, who upset No. 2 Simona Halep in Madrid earlier this month, was cool in the decisive set today. She celebrated her comeback with an ice bath.

The 29th-ranked Frenchwoman is good friends with compatriot Gael Monfils.

Asked to pick any male player she could coach, a laughing Cornet replied: "It wouldn't be Gael Monfils."

Cornet also picks Steffi Graf as her French Open dream opponent and picks the player she would most like to coach in the video above.
