Wimbledon, The Championships announced several players who received wildcards into the main draw of the upcoming Grand Slam tournament this month. The most prominent name on the list includes a former champion.
ATP: Dolgopolov Downs Nadal at Queen's Club
Australia's Lleyton Hewitt was given a berth into the main draw of the Gentlemen's Event. The 34-year-old Hewitt, who won the title in 2002, is expected to play his last Wimbledon as part of his farewell tour.
Hewitt acknowledged the wildcard on Twitter.
France's Nicolas Mahut also finds himself with a coveted main draw wildcard. The veteran Frenchman earned his spot thanks in part to winning the Topshelf Open title in Den Bosch this past weekend. Mahut is perhaps known for having lost to John Isner in their marathon three-day men's match back in 2010 that became the longest match in tennis history.
Former doubles champions Johnny Marray and Frederik Nielsen were given a wildcard into the Gentlemen's Doubles draw. Marray and Nielsen won the title as a first time team back in 2012.
Liam Broady, Kyle Edmund, James Ward, and Johanna Konta are among several U.K. players given wildcards into the respective men's and women's singles events. The full list of wildcards is expected to be complete by the end of next week.
