Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Ukrainian qualifer Lesia Tsurenko gave No. 3 seed Simona Halep all she could handle in a second round match on Wimbledon on Friday, which was cancelled on Thursday due to rain. Ranked outside the top 150 in the world rankings due to injuries and inconsistencies after peaking at No. 60 last year, Tsurenko came back from a set and a break down to force a third set, before Halep eventually prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

After Halep secured the first break of the opening set to lead 4-3, Tsurenko elected to challenge a Halep first serve that was called good on break point. As it turned out, the serve was *just a little bit* inside the line.

All parties involved - Tsurenko, Halep, the Court No. 2 crowd and even umpire Eva Asderaki - had a laugh about it.

Tsurenko's certainly not the first to be a little bit embarrassed by Hawkeye at the All-England Club, but is this a contender for worst Wimbledon challenge of all time? It's certainly a worthy challenger to both Jelena Jankovic and Marat Safin
