Federer's Tweener Hits Matosevic
Tennis fans are used to Roger Federer’s majestic brilliance and his regal, supreme artistry, but tonight we got something, well, different: Roger Federer’s latest and greatest work of genius, the “tweener off the bum.” Though it couldn’t have pleased Marinko Matosevic too much, the spontaneously strange occurrence got rave reviews from the rowdy night session crowd at Arthur Ashe stadium, and it gave Federer’s guest Michael Jordan something to remember on his first ever visit to the US Open.

It also made Federer spit up with laughter, which is something fans don’t get to see too often from the usually steely and reserved character.
Federer has hit quite a few notable tweeners in his career, and the Swiss maestro was clearly intent on hitting another, which is why commentators surmised that he went ahead and smashed the tweener even though Matosevic’s lob had drifted well wide of the baseline to end the point.
What ensued was the perfect storm. A dash of comedy to go with all this talk of genius and legends. We got to see the human side of Federer tonight. At 33, the father of four is not afraid to let himself have a little fun. He went for a smash to pay homage to Air Jordan earlier in the match and he missed it badly, but on this hilarious bit of slapstick, Federer was right on target.
When it comes to knocking tweeners of another player’s butt, Federer is clearly the undisputed GOAT.
