Sloane Stephens Qualifies for WTA Finals in Singapore


Sloane Stephens is going to Singapore! The 2017 U.S. Open champion became the sixth player to qualify for next week’s WTA Finals when it was announced that Elina Svitolina would not be playing this week.The 25-year-old, making her first appearance at the WTA Finals, claimed her sixth WTA title at Miami this season and also reached the Roland Garros final. Stephens is currently 33-17 on the season—she earned four Top 10 wins on the season and also reached the final at Montreal.Tecnifibre T-FightTwo spots remain in the Singapore draw, with three contenders hoping to qualify. Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova and Kiki Bertens are all in the mix but only Pliskova and Bertens control their own destiny. Both are in the Kremlin Cup draw this week and can qualify with a semifinal appearance. If one of them doesn’t reach the semis in Moscow, Svitolina will qualify.
