Williams Sisters, Chwalinska Get Wimbledon Wild Cards

The sisters will play doubles at Wimbledon in 2026, but mum's the word on singles.

Serena and Venus Williams have been granted a wild card into this year’s Championships. The All England announced the news on Tuesday morning, and it provided lists of all wild cards in singles and doubles.

The Williams sisters have won six titles at the All England Club, and 14 major doubles titles overall. The last played Wimbledon together in 2016, winning the title, and they last played a Grand Slam together at Roland Garros in 2018.

The sisters own a 45-5 lifetime record in women’s doubles matches at Wimbledon.

If the Williams sisters win the title, they would break the world record for the oldest combined age of a Grand Slam-winning women’s doubles team. Hsieh Su-wei (Taiwan) and Barbora Strýcová had a combined age of 74 years and 303 days when they won Wimbledon 2023, per the Athletic.

Alexander Bublik and Nick Kyrgios were also granted a men’s doubles wild card, along with Dan Evans and Henry Searle.

There was, however, no mention of Serena or Venus in singles. The club announced it’s men’s and women’s singles wild cards, leaving two men’s and one women’s spot blank.

Notably, Grigor Dimitrov, Stan Wawrinka and Maja Chwalinska were granted main draw wild cards.

With two men’s wild cards yet to be awarded, there is hope that Gael Monfils, Dan Evans, Matteo Berrettini and others to claim spots in the main draw.

Berrettini is currently one spot out of the main draw, so he is likely to get in without assistance.

On the women’s side only one spot remains – surely if Serena decided she wanted to play singles it would be hers.
