Flushing Meadows, NY—Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova made doubles history on Sunday at the US Open. The pair defeated Americans Taylor Townsend and Caty McNally, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 to claim their maiden US Open title and become the seventh women’s doubles team to claim the Career Grand Slam.
Krejcikova and Siniakova, seeded third, won their third major title of 2022. They only Slam they did not win was Roland-Garros.
The dynamic duo joins Judy Tegart Dalton and Margaret Court, Anne Smith and Kathy Jordan, Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver, Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva, Serena and Venus Williams and Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani on the list.
They won eight of the last nine games of the final in Arthur Ashe Stadium, starting with a break of McNally’s serve at 5-5 in the second set.
It was a great week for McNally and Townsend despite the loss. Playing in their second event together as a team, they came within a set of the title.
