Angelique Kerber snapped a three-match losing streak with a good old-fashioned 6-1, 6-1 beatdown of Barbora Strycova to advance to the third round of the Miami Open.
More: Federer Forced to Withdraw from Miami
Kerber who had gone into a bit of a swoon since winning the Australian Open in January, appears to have regained her fitness and fire in Miami.
She converted all six of her break points and dropped just 12 points on serve in improving to 4-0 against Strycova. The No. 2 seed will face Kiki Bertens, who took out Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in three sets, in the third round.
A trio of seeds weren’t so lucky early on Friday. 14th-seeded Sara Errani was knocked off by Japanese wild card Naomi Osaka, 6-1, 6-3, while Timea Babos took out 17th-seeded Karolina Pliskova, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(0).
Osaka and Babos will meet in the third round.
American Nicole Gibbs ousted 27th-seeded Kristina Mladenovic, 6-2, 6-4.
