Fernando Verdasco has been forced to withdraw from Roland-Garros due to a positive Covid-19 test that the Spaniard feels is a false positive. Verdasco, who was pulled out of yesterday’s draw, has taken to Twitter to voice his frustration with the matter.
“This year I will not be able to participate in Roland Garros, much to my regret and feeling a total frustration,” Verdasco wrote.
Verdasco says he has done multiple PCR tests, with negative results, but that at Roland Garros he tested positive. He said he “passed” the Covid-19 asymptomatically in August and returned to training after two negative tests. He said he tested negative at Rome (where he played) and then again at Hamburg (where he did not play), and added that all his team and family tested negative in Paris.
He asked for a retest and was not granted one.
“I want to communicate my total frustration and outrage with the organization of Roland Garros, for taking away my right to participate in this important event without even giving me the opportunity to take another test with a new sample to confirm that the result of the first one could be an error.”
