What did
Dominic Thiem
do to celebrate his first major title? He had some pizza (margherita) and kicked back at his hotel room.
Such is life in the time of coronavirus.
The Austrian made the media rounds on Monday, virtually of course, and appeared on "Live with Kelly and Ryan" to talk about his nerve-racking victory over good friend Alexander Zverev in the US Open final (full video at top of page).
At one point Thiem was asked by host Kelly Ripa if he ever thought about just throwing the match to emotionally validate his friend Alexander Zverev. "Does that ever happen?" she asked...
“Maybe next time,” the Austrian replied with a smile.
Thiem became the first player to rally from a two-set deficit in a US Open final and the first to win a fifth-set tiebreaker to close out a US Open title.
