Bencic joins world No. 1 and reigning champion Ashleigh Barty, three-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka and 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu as the fourth Top 10 woman to withdraw from the season's final Grand Slam.
Simona Halep, the 2018 Roland Garros, headlines the French Open field and can regain the world No. 1 ranking winning the title.
Bencic, who lost in last week's Rome opener to qualifier Danka Kovinic, joins fellow Swiss Roger Federer, who is out for the season recovering from a second arthroscopic knee surgery, in pulling out of Paris.
On the men's side, former Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic and Spaniard Fernando Verdasco have both withdrawn from Roland Garros.
