Garcia-Lopez Rallies, Paire Falls in Metz


Guillermo Garcia-Lopez made a rousing comeback, while Benoit Paire checked out in Metz.

Garcia-Lopez broke serve seven times surging past Damir Dzumhur, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. The victory sends the Spaniard into a second-round meeting with fourth-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon.

It was a good day for qualifiers.

Qualifier Peter Gojowczyk slammed 22 aces and withstood 27 aces from Nicolas Almagro in a 6-4, 6-7 (11), 6-3 victory.

The 209th-ranked German will take on top-seeded Dominic Thiem for a quarterfinal spot.

In an all-French first-round clash, qualifier Vincent Millot surprised the seventh-seeded Paire, 6-4, 6-3, winning 21 of 29 points played on Paire's second serve.



Dustin Brown hit 15 aces in a 6-4, 6-2, triumph over Paul-Henri Mathieu.
