Unless you're CoCo Vandeweghe in which case, the changeover can be a form of stress relief.

The sheer commitment of CoCoco's smash-up left Mattek-Sands cracking up.
"I was laughing when she was doing it. I saw her break her racquet," Mattek-Sands said afterward. "I thought she was done and she just kept going. I was like, Go big or go home. You might as well destroy it. You already cracked it. I mean, CoCo, she'll rip the ball. The next two games she played after that she played pretty free, hit some winners. Sometimes that's all it takes to help you feel better—for her anyways."
Vandeweghe is already one of the game's biggest servers, now she's rapidly rising up the ranks of racquet smashers. She's even decapitated racquets during bathroom breaks this season.
The carnage did not inspire a comeback. Mattek-Sands broke serve five times in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over her sometime practice partner.
