Second Serve

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is having his best season as a professional. And he’s also risking life and limb to win points. Watch as the Spaniard, who won his 11th match of the season today in Cologne by defeating American Steve Johnson, lays out for this dive to win a point while leading 7-6, 5-3 (he went on to claim the 7-6(3), 6-3 win) .

Here’s another look at this gorgeous play by the Spaniard:

It’s been a very solid year for Davidovich Fokina, who is up to 64 in the world. He's won 11 matches on tour, after heading into 2020 with just three ATP victories to his name. The 21-year-old became the youngest man from Spain to reach the second week of a major since Rafael Nadal in 2007 at the US Open, not long after he had won his first match at a Grand Slam at the Australian Open in January.

He will face either Oscar Otte or Diego Schwartzman next.
