Stefanos Tsitsipas says he has taken a lot of inspiration from Dominic Thiem’s recent success. The Greek, speaking with reporters after his 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Andrey Rublev on Wednesday in Paris, says that Thiem gives him hope that he too can break through and win a Grand Slam title.

“For sure it's going to come at some point,” Tsitsipas said. “I mean, let's face it. The big three have been there for a long time—I don't feel like it's going to be the same in five, six years' time, I believe.”

The Greek, who became the first man from his country to ever reach a Grand Slam semi-final on Wednesday, says that Thiem’s body of work since he reached his first Roland Garros final in 2018 has caught his attention.

“Dominic inspires me a lot,” he said. “What Dominic has achieved is amazing. Being able to have back-to-back finals here at the French is truly inspiring. Dominic is someone that makes me understand the game and makes me want to push even further to reach what he has reached.”

Tsitsipas also adds that it doesn’t hurt that Thiem is a genuinely nice human, and an extremely hard worker. Thesse are qualities that the world No.6 wishes to emulate (and he’s done so nicely).

“He's a nice guy off the court,” Tsitsipas said. “Big workaholic on the court. He has a very balanced and very -- he's a very passionate person in every aspect. We're good friends. I think I can learn a lot from him and add it to my game. From the young guys, he's someone that I really look up to.”
