Former champion Petra Kvitova has qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore for a fifth consecutive year, the WTA announced today. The 25-year-old World No. 5 has gone 35-13 in 2015, winning all three finals she has contested despite battling with mono symptoms for much of the second half of the season.
"I am so excited to qualify for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore for the fifth straight year,” said Kvitova in a statement released by the WTA. “I have been through some tough moments this season so I'm extra proud of myself for qualifying again and making it back to Singapore. Playing as one of the top eight is a big goal for me each year so I can't wait to be back there, fighting hard and hopefully playing some great tennis in front of the Singaporean fans."
Kvitova is the fourth to qualify, joining Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova and Garbine Muguruza.
There are four spots remaining and they are currently held onto by Angelique Kerber, Agnieszka Radwanska, Lucie Safarova and Flavia Pennetta.
Venus Williams, Carla Suarez Navarro and Karolina Pliskova are still alive in the hunt but need to put up big results this week and next week to rise on the leaderboard.
Timea Bacsinszky and Belinda Bencic are technically still in the hunt, but Bacsinszky is scheduled to play in Luxembourg next week and that event’s points don’t count towards Singapore standings. Bencic is out with a hand injury and hopes to return for Zhuhai.
