After his second-round victory over Miomir Kecmanovic on Wednesday at the Paris Masters, Alexander Zverev didn’t have a lot to say about the domestic allegations that have been levied against him by ex-girlfriend Olga Sharypova. The World No.7, who defeated Kecmanovic 6-2 6-2, said that he stands by his recent social media post on the subject—that her claims are unfounded.
“Right now, as I said, I have said everything on my Instagram. Yeah, there is nothing else I can add right now. I'm here. I'm here to play tennis. I mean, the relationship, as I said, has been over for a very long time. I'm enjoying my time on court. I have said everything. They are not true, and there is nothing more I can say right now.”
Zverev, who will face Adrian Mannarino of France in the third round in Paris, did indicate that he is happy about his impending fatherhood.
His ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea announced that she was 20 weeks pregnant in the media last week and hinted that she didn’t want Zverev involved with the child. But in his statement on social media Zverev said he was looking forward to becoming a father.
“The last days were quite challenging for me,” Zverev wrote in a social media statement. “I will be a father at 23. And I am very much looking forward to the child.”
In his virtual press conference on Wednesday, he alluded to his happiness about the subject, but did not go into any details on his current relationship status with Patea.
“As you said, there is obviously a little bit of things going on,” he told a reporter. “There is some very good news, I think. Yeah, I'm happy to be here and playing tennis.”
