Martina Hingis and Leander Paes turned the French Open's final Friday into a veterans' day celebration.
Attacking net with vigor, the 42-year-old Paes and 35-year-old Hingis made mixed doubles magic rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 over Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig to capture the Roland Garros mixed doubles title and complete the career mixed doubles Grand Slam together.
Stosur: Muguruza Has a Very Good Shot to Win Roland Garros
Hall of Famer Hingis and Paes partnered to win three of the four mixed majors last year: Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open.
Mirza and Dodig knocked Hingis and Paes out of the Australian Open quarterfinals in January, 7-6 (1), 6-3, and deployed their baseline power to take the opening set in today's final.
Paes poached more effectively to help take the second set and level the match.
At 8-all in the decisive tie break, Hingis hit the shot of the match.
Engaged in a crosscourt exchange with Dodig, the former world No. 1 sensed her doubles partner, Mirza, about to cross and curled a sharp-angled crosscourt pass behind her for championship point.
When Dodig netted a forehand, Hingis and Paes secured their spot in history.
