World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has been on a wild ride in 2016, winning the first two majors of the season to become the first male to achieve the feat since 1992. But the the world No.1's ride has gotten a little less wild at the All England Club, as he’s reportedly been banned for riding his bicycle on the grounds after a near miss with a supply vehicle.
According to Richard Harvey of the U.K. Sun, Djokovic narrowly avoided colliding with the vehicle last week and was banned from riding in the name of his own safety.
Here’s a snippet from Harvey’s article:
The world No 1 likes to pedal around the venue as part of his conditioning preparation due to its steep slopes.
But now the French Open champion has been served with a warning with a Wimbledon player-liaison official telling him he could not use his bike any more for his own safety.
The 29-year-old Djokovic was reportedly unhappy to be banned on safety grounds when he did not appear to be breaking any rules.
Djokovic will begin his quest for a 13th major and fourth Wimbledon title later Monday when he meets Great Britain’s James Ward on Centre Court.
He owns a 52-8 career mark at Wimbledon and a 221-34 lifetime record at the Grand Slams.
