Angelique Kerber's Bastad appearance lasted one match.

The top-seeded German withdrew from the Ericsson Open due to an elbow injury. Kerber suffered elbow pain during her opening-round win over Swedish wild card Cornelia Lister.

"Yesterday, during the match, my elbow start to pain," Kerber said. "I was fighting yesterday. I was hoping overnight and all the treatments I get last night and this morning it will be better. But I was practicing this morning and I was not feeling 100 percent. It's still painful and that's why I decide not to risk too much and withdrawing from here, which for me is really disappointing. It's a really tough decision for me."

The Australian Open champion said she's not sure how long the recovery will take or when she will return.

"I will try to get to my doctors now and get to my physios and try to get as fit as soon as possible and making the fastest recovery I can get," Kerber said. "And then we will see in the next few days how it works."

Kerber won her three-set opener wearing taping around her left elbow later in the match.
