Second Serve

For the first time in fifteen years, since he paired with his then girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec, Roger Federer will return to Perth to compete in the Hopman Cup.

“I think it will be a perfect tournament for me to start the season,” said the 17-time major champion.

Federer, who also won the Hopman Cup in 2001 alongside Martina Hingis, said he watched Hopman Cup on TV last season and couldn’t help but want to be a part of it.

“I thought on TV it looked great, the atmosphere seemed really nice, the stadium looked fantastic so I’m looking forward to playing in that environment,” he said.

Federer will team up with current World No.16 Belinda Bencic.

“I’m very much looking forward to playing with Roger in the mixed doubles and representing my country at the Hopman Cup,” Bencic said. “I’ve not been to Perth before but I’ve heard great things and can’t wait to check out the city.”
