World No. 7 Petra Kvitova will part ways with longtime coach David Kytoza, the man who helped guide the Czech to her two Wimbledon titles as part of their fruitful, seven-year pairing.
“We had a great run together, winning two Wimbledons, 17 titles and enjoying many laughs,” Kvitova said.
Kvitova announced the news on social media earlier on Monday.
Kytoza began coaching Kvitova in 2009. At the time he was still working with Iveta Benesova. Kvitova spoke highly of him during a 2015 exclusive with Courtney Nguyen, the WTA’s senior writer.
"I started with him when I was 19, so I was kind of a baby as a tennis player,” she told Nguyen. “He had experiences. He almost was kind of the guy who showed me everything.
"Now, of course, it's little bit changed. I'm getting older. I'm adult. I have my things as well. We have to really find a good balance and good communication on the court and off the court, as well. I'm glad because, you know, when the baby is growing, sometimes you have different opinions on lot of things. But we don't, so that's why we are still together probably."
