Battle of Brothers: Murrays Face Off in Montreal Doubles

Only a few weeks ago, Andy Murray and Jamie Murray played as a team in doubles. Now they will face off against each other across the net for the first time.

ATP: Hewitt to Mentor Kyrgios Before US Open

The Murray brothers find themselves opponents in the men's doubles draw at this week's Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada. It will mark the first time in their careers that they will try to defeat the other in a professional tournament.

Andy Murray is playing doubles this week with doubles great Leander Paes. Jamie Murray is seeded No. 7 in the Montreal doubles draw with his longstanding partner John Peers of Australia.

“I’ve never played my brother since we became professionals,” Andy Murray told ATP.com. “We obviously played a lot against each other in juniors, in a lot of local competitions or competitions around Great Britain, but yeah we haven’t played each other for a very long time."

The Murray recently teamed up in doubles during the Davis Cup quarterfinal tie between Great Britain and France. The Murray Brothers won the pivotal doubles rubber against Nicolas Mahut and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Murray and Paes reached the second round of Montreal after winning over Jeremy Chardy and Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-1 to book their meeting with Murray and Peers.

Murray, who lost in singles last week early in Washington, D.C., drew parallels to another famous pair of siblings who play doubles but also face each other in singles.

"It'll be nice in some ways to do that but also it’s not easy. Serena and Venus (Williams) have obviously done it playing for Grand Slams and stuff and I can’t imagine how difficult that is.”

Jamie Murray and John Peers won the Hamburg doubles title as well reaching the men's doubles final at this year's Wimbledon.
