That record was achieved at the 2011 US Open, which saw ten men retire from matches in the first six days but only one more until the end of the tournament.

On Thursday (Day 4), Michael Llodra retired from a match or the 29th time in his career, and the seventh time in a Grand Slam, against Philipp Kohlschreiber, while Pablo Andujar retired against Kei Nishikori, just two days after Jack Sock retired against him.
