Williams Sisters Receive Cincinnati Doubles Wild Card

The Queen City will host a Williams sisters reunion

Venus Williams and sister Serena Williams will reprise their doubles partnership in Cincinnati. The Williams sisters have accepted a wild card into the Cincinnati Open, set for August 11-23rd.

Seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus, 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens and Taylor Townsend each received Cincinnati Open singles wild cards.

After they play the Queen City, could Queens be next for the Williams sisters?

It is believed the Williams sisters may be playing Cincinnati in preparation for a US Open doubles return later this month. The Williams sisters won US Open doubles championships in 1999 and 2009.

A year ago, Venus Williams partnered 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez to reach the Flushing Meadows doubles quarterfinals.

Venus Williams, 46, and 44-year-old sister Serena were set to play doubles at Wimbledon last month.

However, former No. 1 Serena Williams suffered a knee injury in her three-set Wimbledon singles loss to Australian Maya Joint and withdrew from The Championships.

Together, the Williams sisters produced a perfect 14-0 record in Grand Slam doubles finals. The sisters own a record four Olympic gold medals apiece.
