The Williams sisters are returning to their roots reprising their partnership in New York.
Venus Williams, 46, and 44-year-old Serena Williams have received a wild card into the US Open doubles field, the USTA announced today.
The Williams Sisters own a remarkable 14-0 record in Grand Slam doubles finals. The sisters have each won four Olympic gold-doubles medals representing the United States, including three doubles gold medals.
The two-time US Open doubles champions reunited at the Cincinnati Open on August 17th against Madrid champion Marta Kostyuk and American Peyton Stearns, who lost to Venus Williams at the 2025 Mubadala Washington, DC Open.
Venus Williams double faulted into net ending a thrilling 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 victory for Kostyuk and Stearns over the legendary Williams sisters at the Cincinnati Open.
The sisters, playing together for the first time since their 2022 US Open first-round loss, were outgunned in the opening set, dynamic in the second set and staged a tiebreaker comeback that fell short.
“I thought it was fun. I thought it was special,” Serena said. “We kicked off a little rust in the middle of a match. We were starting to feel it – it was really fun.
“It was really cool to be able to do this again.”
Fans stood and gave the Williams sisters a rousing standing ovation sendoff as they walked off Grandstand Court waving to the crowd.
That Queen City match was a prelude to a Grand Slam return in Queens a full 27 years after a 17-year-old Serena defeated Kim Clijsters, Conchita Martinez, Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis to capture the 1999 US Open singles championships.
The Williams sisters have played doubles together at the US Open nine times (1997, ‘99, 2000-01, ‘09, ‘12-14, ‘22), going 27-7 and winning both the 1999 and 2009 titles.
The announcement comes a day after Serena played in the US Open’s Mixed Doubles Championship yesterday with Carlos Alcaraz, where they reached the quarterfinals. Serena rocked the radar gun with a couple of 120 mile-an-hour service blasts and hit several explosive swing volleys.
