Holger Rune Pulls Out of Cincinnati, Comeback Weeks Away
Former world No. 4 continues rehabbing a ruptured Achilles he suffered last season.

Holger Rune has withdrawn from Cincinnati and may well miss the US Open as well.
Former world No. 4 Rune joins No. 1 Jannik Sinner, 2025 Cincinnati champion Carlos Alcaraz and Sebastian Korda, who underwent back surgery this month, in pulling out of the Queen City.
Rune is continuing his recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon he suffered last October and a knee injury he sustained earlier this year.
Former Paris Masters champion Rune had been rehabbing at Aspetar Hospital in Qatar and more recently has posted images on social media of his training at the Mouratoglou Academy.

“Yes, a lot is happening on the physical side at the moment,” Aneke Rune told Nicholas Albek. “We had the specialist from Doha down 10 days ago to give a lot of tips to the explosive work – and it really moves.
“He’s getting faster and faster, so basically the main focus now is to get his tennis stamina up, which is why you can see him with all the measuring equipment he’s training with.”
On October 19th, Rune was leading Ugo Humbert 6-4, 2-2 when he ruptured his Achilles tendon in the Stockholm semifinals.
A tearful Rune retired from the match and underwent surgery last October. Rune has made a rapid recovery from surgery, but suffered a knee issue while training for his comeback last month.
The 23-year-old Dane’s team said he’s progressing well in his rehab, but it not quite ready for the rigors of tournament play.
Based on his recent social media posts, Rune, a long-time Babolat player, has switched to Wilson racquets.
Aneke Rune says her son is about “Two or three weeks” away from a comeback which could rule him out of this month’s US Open. Unless Rune, like Alcaraz and Sinner, opts to try to comeback at the Flushing Meadows major.
“It could take two, three weeks, it’s impossible to say right now,” Aneke Rune told Nicholas Albek. “What we can say is that Holger gives maximum effort every day so that it can happen quickly.”
