The Rafa Nadal Academy Slam is shaping up as a reunion of former world No. 1 rivals.
Andy Murray is the first player confirmed for the Rafa Nadal Academy Slam. The three-time Grand Slam champion will captain the team that will take on the side led by Rafa Nadal on October 3rd at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor as part of the Academy’s10th Anniversary celebrations.
Murray, the only man to successfully defend the Olympic gold medal in singles, won his last ATP meeting vs. Nadal scoring a 7-5, 6-4 win in the 2016 Mutua Madrid Open semifinals. Overall, Nadal leads their head-to-head series, 17-7.
Nadal revealed Murray as the first of his friends and rivals who will join him on his return to the court at the Rafa Nadal Academy Slam.
This will be Murray’s third visit to the Academy, having first visited in 2016 for a training session before returning in 2019 to compete at the Rafa Nadal Open.
