(July 25, 2011) Considering the usual hustle and bustle of the professional tennis world, last week was rather quiet.

The U.S. Open series began with the Atlanta Tennis Championships, while the post-Wimbledon clay court tournaments continued at the German Tennis Championships in Hamburg.

Mardy Fish
defended his Atlanta title, beating John Isner in the final for the second year in a row, and Gilles Simon conquered clay-court ace Nicolas Almagro to win in Hamburg.

Meanwhile, World No. 3
Vera Zvonareva was the highest-seeded player at the Baku Cup in Azerbaijan, and she went on to with the tournament.

This week, however, is quite different because there are five tournaments.

Fish is the top-seeded player in the Farmer’s Classic in Los Angeles, and he is joined by 2009 U.S. Open champion
Juan Martin del Potro, Marcos Baghdatis, Thomaz Bellucci and Grigor Dimitrov.

Fish could have a tricky second-round match against Atlanta semifinalist
Gilles Muller of Luxembourg and then 2007 Australian Open finalist Fernando Gonzalez of Chile.

In the other half of the draw, del Potro could play
James Blake in the second round, and he could face either Xavier Malisse or Ernests Gulbis in the third round.

There are also two clay-court tournaments in Europe this week.

Juan Ignacio Chela
, Alexandr Dolgopolov, Ivan Ljubicic and Marin Cilic are the top-seeded players at the ATP Studena Croatia Open in Umag, Croatia.

At the other tournament, the Swiss Open in Gstaad, Switzerland, Almagro and
Stanislas Wawrinka are the top seeds.

The post-Wimbledon clay-court season comes to an end next week at the Bet-At-Home Cup in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

Both of the WTA’s tournaments are in the United States.

Victoria Azarenka
is the defending champion and top seed at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, California. The tournament has many top players, including Maria Sharapova,
Marion Bartoli
, Samantha Stosur, Agnieszka Radwanska and Julia Goerges.

Serena Williams
is also in the tournament, and she could play Sharapova in the third round.

The final tournament is the inaugural Citi Open in College Park, Md. World No. 24
Shahar Peer is the top seed, followed by Nadia Petrova, Tamira Paszek, Jelena Dokic and Bojana Jovanovski.
