Nadal Unsure About U.S. Open
By Eric Gudris
(August 14, 2012) --
Rafael Nadal
and his legions of fans could be in for more disappointment this summer according to a new interview Nadal gave about his participation in this month's U.S. Open.
Speaking to Spanish T.V. channel Laverdad, Nadal said he was unsure if he would be able to play in New York due to his recent knee injury that forced him out this month's Olympics in London.
"I don't know if I’ll be ready in time for the U.S. Open," Nadal said. "I can't say yes or no. The injury is not the same as other years, and I have found it a little different."
The injury also forced the former No. 1
out of last week's event in Toronto
and this week's Western and Southern Open.
Roger Federer
, during his pre-tournament press conference yesterday in Cincinnati, expressed concern over Nadal's extended absence and said he planned to write Nadal and check on how the Spanish star was doing.
"I thought for sure we would see him in Toronto, but now he missed Toronto and Cincinnati," Federer said yesterday. "It's very surprising, because it was nothing we heard of prior to the injury. He played so well on clay, and then actually seemed fine at Wimbledon. He had more time by losing earlier at Wimbledon. So it came as big surprise now, these two pullouts for me. Even the Olympics, too. So I'm sad for him. I hope he'll be back at the Open."
The U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows, New York is scheduled to begin on August 27th.
